Ten Days In Paradise

Meet Linda Abbott

I grew up wanting to be Lois Lane–not a novelist.  Early on journalism was my dream career, later  I started my own public relations firm.  Despite the fact that for two decades I had made my living from writing, the idea of writing a novel never occurred to me until I was in my mid-forties.  Call me a late bloomer.  To me, writing fiction–coming up with plot, characters and dialogue out of a universe of unlimited possibilities–was the ultimate challenge.  I convinced myself I could never do it and that was that.

But over time the challenge intrigued me, eventually prompting me to buy a book on writing fiction.  It gathered dust on my shelf for more than a year until one day it wound up in mysuitcase, destination Sanibel Island, my favorite place in the world.  It was on that vacation to Sanibel that one afternoon I opened the book and did a writing exercise; little did I know I was writing the opening chapter of my novel.  For the next several years, I wrote–late at night, on weekends and on the rare vacation.  My day job often got in the way and for months I wouldn't work on it at all.  Though pace was painstakingly slow, I kept at it.

Fast forward, I’m launching my debut novel, Ten Days In Paradise.  One of the key takeaways from this remarkable journey is this:  when that little voice in your head tells you that you can't do something, don't listen!  This experience has taught me that each and every one of us is capable of so much more than we can imagine.

About me

I live in Middleton, Wisconsin, with my husband Paul in a rural subdivision surrounded by corn fields and inundated with robins, cardinals, hummingbirds and rabbits.  My son Charlie, 26, is a talented musician who lives in Nashville.

On the top of my bucket list is to find a way to spend more time on Sanibel.  I'm very excited to get started on my next novel.  I love spending time with family, being outdoors, walking, biking and reading, especially anything by Elizabeth George.  I devoured Nancy Drew as a child and still love a great mystery.

I enjoy classic cinema and am a huge fan of Bette Davis, Fred Astaire and Cary Grant.  Favorite movies include Top Hat, All About Eve and The Philadelphia Story.

After many years of working as a public relations consultant, I’m passionate about my new venture, Never Forget Legacies & Tributes.  I create heirloom-quality legacy books to capture and preserve cherished memories and life stories for individuals and families, work I find extremely rewarding.
